Book to Action:
In 2017, the Cal State East Bay freshmen common read program merged with Hayward Book to Action to engage more classes, the broader campus, and the local Hayward community in structured conversations about immigration and collectively engage in activities related the City of Hayward’s Commitment for an Inclusive, Equitable, and Compassionate Community (The Commitment).
While supplies last, free English and Spanish copies of In the Country We Love: My Family Divided by Diane Guerrero will be distributed to community members who commit to attending a book discussion, the keynote event featuring Diane Guerrero, and/or a community conversation.
We hope this project and associated activities will enable residents to voice concerns about local and national issues related to immigration, create a supportive environment for open dialogue, and allow residents to put The Commitment into action.
